Message us on WhatsAppA garden in Wellington and a garden in Franschhoek are not the same job, and the difference is not marketing. Three things change as you move across the Winelands, and each of them changes what we would plant, when we would plant it and what the work costs.
Soil across these eight areas ranges from the decomposed granite on the Paarl slopes to the deeper alluvial ground along the river flats. It decides how much compost a bed needs before anything goes in, how fast irrigation drains away, and whether a lawn will hold through February without constant water. The same grass on the same budget behaves differently a few kilometres apart.
Watering restrictions are set by the municipality, not by the province, so Drakenstein and Stellenbosch can sit on different levels at the same time. The level governs when you may water, with what, and sometimes whether you may plant new lawn at all. Each area page names the authority, states the level we last confirmed and carries the date we checked it, because this is the kind of fact that goes stale quietly.
Most of the estates we work on run their own architectural and landscaping guidelines, and they are not interchangeable. Approved grass species, plant lists, contractor accreditation, permitted working hours and green waste removal all differ, and Pearl Valley has its own homeowners association separate from Val de Vie. We have been a registered, approved contractor at both for over seven years. Where an area page cites an estate rule, it names the estate and the document it came from.
If your area is not listed, it is still worth asking. We work right across the Paarl winelands and the boundary is about travel time rather than a line on a map.
